The Tibetan Book of the Dead — Just Because

Posted by lucyd     Category: Humor

Ok, everyone, this is a slight left from my regular topic, but you MUST see this!

Thomas Scoville – creator of the Silicon Valley Tarot and the Metrosexual Tarot (and featured on my “Interviews” page above) has just released one of his most ambitious projects yet –

The Tibetan Book of the Dead – IN COMIC BOOK FORM!

Now, I’m an old fan of Zap Comix from the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. They combined hilarious stories that were all-too-true with some of the wildest comic book art in history.  You could read them and feel like you weren’t alone in your crazy thoughts.  Now, with a black and white tip-of-the-hat to the classic, “Zen and the Art of the Macintosh” comes the companion book for all your musings on your own demise!

You can now preview your journey after death while laughing away all the bad karma you’re surely racking up by making fun of it in the first place — when you read:

The Comic Bardo Thodol

By Thomas Scoville.

If you are of the Buddhist persuasion, this is ten times funnier, but you invented the good laugh anyway, didn’t you? So check it out – and send it to all your friends. The more you read it, the funnier it gets!

Thomas Scoville Speaks the Tarot!

Posted by lucyd     Category: Interview

Yesterday I had the pleasure of interviewing Thomas Scoville. You may remember him from my post entitled: “I Predict You Will Laugh”. He is the creator of the Silicon Valley Tarot.

Tune in to our lively conversation about his deck, the tarot, and life in general.

The tarot card depicted above is based on a picture of Thomas. It’s from another deck he has created, but you’ll have to listen to find out all about it! =)

ENJOY!

I Predict You Will Laugh!

Posted by lucyd     Category: Humor

OMG I can’t work, I can’t think, I’ve just been laughing all day!! How can this be? I have things that are waiting to be finished on my desk, but I keep stopping to play the game.

What am I talking about?

Well, well, well, I discovered two fantastic, hilarious tarot decks on the web today.

The first one is “The Silicon Valley Tarot”.

Now, you might have heard of this one.  The creator, Thomas Scoville, has been writing about it for a while online.  This is a deck made using metaphors from Silicon Valley.

The slogan appears to be: “Cheaper than a Consultant. Same Results.”

There are only 70 cards (a little light for a real tarot deck, but still heavy for poker), and they are modeled on the real tarot.  Take for instance, The Fool. The Fool is card number Zero. The Tarot is the story of the Fool’s quest.  He’s raw and full of energy and would step off a cliff if you didn’t point it out to him.

In Scoville’s deck, the Fool is “The Hacker”.

Did I not just describe the quintessential 14 year old who becomes a hacker for fun?  The tarot card The Empress (aka “the Mother”) is ……. A GARAGE !!  Why? Because in Silicon Valley, that’s where all the good stuff starts.

The most fun part of the entire thing is that you can have your cards read right on the site, and you will laugh till you cry.  Normally, I don’t send people away from my site, but you have to view it!

The other cause for this hilarity is the “Housewives Tarot”.  This is a 50s style deck that will send you back in time.  You can get recipes (the deck comes in a recipe box), have your cards read and even get cool desktop art.  You HAVE to check these out.  You’ll be consulting them often!
