Then Along Came Mary

Posted by lucyd     Category: About LucyD, Interview, tarot

When I met Mary, I was a mixed-up reader.  I was trying and trying with all my might to infuse life into the cards, but all I ever got was a stilted mix of cardboard meanings read from a book.  I was absolutely sure that there was no hope for me as a reader because there was no flow, no grace when I tried to read the cards.

THEN ALONG CAME MARY

and everything changed.  Find out how I got my Tarot on, and how you can, too if you’re struggling with making the leap from student to professional.

As many of you know, Mary is a central figure in my life. We met many years ago at a party. She was reading everyone’s cards, but refused to read mine.

That was a complex moment in my life.

Her refusal to read my cards actually spurred me on to becoming a serious student of the Tarot instead of a dabbler. You may have listened to the interview I did with her, and if you have not yet tuned in but would like to, you can find it here:

Right after that interview was posted, I started to get questions. The most-asked question was:

How could Mary learn to read cards if she is not a psychic?

I called Mary yesterday and asked her that question. Here is her response:

“Everyone can be in touch with the unknown,” Mary said. “It’s all about how you develop it.” She said that she never felt psychic before she began to learn the tarot, but studying and reading the tarot really brought that gift to the fore for her.

She found over time that the more books she read on the subject of the tarot, whether they were books about tarot concepts, or books about the meaning of each card, the more psychic she became.

Mary and I have this in common: in general we don’t have other psychic events in our lives. We don’t communicate with those who have passed over (unless it’s in the context of a reading), we can’t pick winners at the horserace. Instead, when we put the cards away, we make an agreement with ourselves to “stay out of other people’s minds” and just be regular gals.

This is one advantage to using a tool such as the tarot to read for someone. You can “turn it off” to a great degree and go about your life. Sometimes, it’s just nice to be normal.

There was a bit of commotion from our listeners regarding the question of what to do if a reader refuses to read for you.

First of all, Mary assumes that you are seeing a reputable tarot card reader. That being the case, first you should ask. Ask again if the answer doesn’t make sense to you. Sometimes the client is in denial about what is going on in his life, and it is up to you to take a look in the mirror and be honest with yourself. In the end, Mary always says, “You have to be ready for change to get a good reading.”

“The Initiation of LucyD” Ends in Paris!

Part One of My Story is Posted Below This.

After a lifetime of trying to solve my life’s problems, I went to a party and met a Tarot Card Reader named Mary. She was reading for all the party goers, and everyone at the party agreed that she was ‘right on’ with what she saw and said for each of them.

When it was my turn, she refused to read for me, saying that I was ‘already a reader’.

I was crushed because I didn’t see myself that way at all — and I had some huge problems that seemed beyond solving, but nevertheless, she refused. At that point, I thought I was stuck forever in the mess I called my life.

I left the party disappointed, confused and sad.

But I never forgot about that night, and I never forgot that out-of-left-field question I asked her just before I left…”What tarot deck are you using?”

I wasted a lot of time, but I finally broke down and bought The Mythic Tarot. I begged my poor friend Lisa to sit through “just one more reading – I promise!”

And because she was still my friend, she did.

Something unexpected happened in that reading. When I looked at the cards, it was clear as a bell what was going on in Lisa’s life.

When I laid out the spread, it was almost like watching a television show about her various problems – and I was getting a peek at the script! Lisa was dumbfounded.

But even better than that – SO WAS I.

The curtain had been pulled back.

The hidden hand, revealed.

Mary’s strange comment to me, validated.

I really was a reader.

That was 25 years ago.

I began studying and practicing in earnest. Believe it or not, Mary and I became good friends.

In time she did read for me, and I’m here to tell you that the effect was intense.

Until I got a professional tarot card reading, I was always on the defensive in my life. Living with my guard up seemed very practical at the time!

After Mary read my cards that very first time, the relief I felt in knowing what was about to happen and all of my possible options, was indescribable.

The situations that were keeping me up every night dissolved into a puff of smoke. I felt clarity and peace. I had tools to move forward not only in my best interest, but in the best interest of everyone involved in my drama.

The effect was life-changing.

I decided that I wanted to use this same proven tools to help others, and people really seemed to want my advice as seen through the cards. So I got to thinking:

I know how it felt to shrug off that suit of armor — the one that was actually doing a pretty bad job of defending me from the slings and arrows of my own life.

Now I wondered how could I most effectively bring that same feeling of freedom and clarity to you — and to also guide you to the answers that lie within you already.

I believe there is a way.

I’ve been working hard on an answer to those questions — but to turn the tables, I’d like to get YOUR input. I really want to make sure that my plan addresses YOUR needs.

So, I’m asking you: if you are ready to drop that metal coat to the ground, and breathe the fresh air that is already there, what would you include? It could be anything, but I want to focus on YOUR opinions and questions.

So, if you would, please take a moment to add a comment below. You have a unique perspective, and your situation and it’s solution are part of the formula I am after. I appreciate your taking the time.

And Now, the BEST Part — Saved for Last!

I eventually changed jobs and found something better before I became a full time reader.

My children turned out just fine and my family brings me joy every day.

And my love life turned completely inside out. I met a man who took me to Paris on a date, and we married shortly thereafter. He is the love of my life, and I’m happier than I have ever been…and it was all first predicted in my cards!
