Contest Winner!

Posted by lucyd     Category: Contest Winners

Only Tarot has been holding a contest for just over a month, now, to give away a free 30 minute reading and mp3 recording of that reading to a lucky winner who signed up.

Today, I gave that reading to Jen, and we had a great time exploring her children’s lives. She was kind enough to give me a testimonial, also, which is on the “Testimonials” page. Check it out! And watch for our next winner!

Spells and Magic

Posted by lucyd     Category: Philosophy of the Cards

What’s the deal? How come I read the tarot, but don’t do any spells or magic? The short answer is, they don’t work. OK, OK, I know, you lit that candle and your wish came true that time. Or you stood outside barefoot one night, looked up at the stars and asked for help — and it arrived just before everything fell apart. I’m not saying that these things don’t happen, and I’m not saying it was just a coincidence. Heck, I’ve done those things myself!

This is what I am saying: spells and magic are something we do all day, every day. We tend to look at the surface of our lives: how can I make more money? will I get a better job? will I fall in love? Maybe we hook up with a business guru to solve the money and job issues. Maybe we get a new hairstyle to begin to solve the love problem. But these subjects really can’t be addressed without going deep below the surface of who we think we are. And the hairstyle and guru are magic spells that we cast in hopes of attracting our desired outcome without doing the heavy lifting.

Stick with me, here. If you think life is happening to you, then I challenge you to link your arm in mine and take a little stroll with me. I have said in earlier posts that reading tarot cards (or any form of divination, for that matter) is really a form of mind reading. In the hands of a mature reader, you can learn much. But how in the world can I read your mind?? It’s because if I believe in anything, I believe in quantum physics. Quantum physics says that there is only one mind. We’re all joined. That’s some deep stuff!

So, what does this have to do with spells and magic, and the tarot? When I read your cards, our minds join. Because I know that whatever ‘bad’ thing is happening ‘to you’ will pass, I can direct you to the next ‘good thing’ coming…but actually, it’s the joining of ‘your mind’ with ‘my mind’ in a spirit of non-judgment that begins a healing. That healing is the real heavy lifting. Healed minds don’t have to search for spells and magic to fix their problems, because the word ‘problems’ has taken on a new meaning. (And ‘life’ has taken on more entertainment value!)

So, yes, your reading may cover subjects like your job, your love life, your future — and you will receive good insight into those areas.

But remember, no one is ever completely healed. And the true path to healing has nothing to do with magic, and everything to do with joining.

Interpreting Tarot Cards

Posted by lucyd     Category: Uncategorized

All Tarot card decks have beauty and mystery in their art. Some come with books to explain each card, and some don’t – relying on the reader’s creativity, intuition and talent to bring them alive. Interpreting tarot cards is more than memorizing words in a book — it is a combination of learning what the book says, and your own intuitive abilities.

I really love the Mythic Tarot because the imagery is so rich and deep. In addition, each of the suits is a delineation of a particular Greek myth. If you know the story, you can understand the card with greater conviction. The Mythic Tarot does come with a book, and every time I read it, I learn more about interpreting tarot cards and about myself. I’ve often said, “If you want to learn about your life and your path, read other people’s cards.” The reason being, the more you teach, the more you learn.

Once, my sister and I were having a conversation about Greek Mythology. “How,” I wondered aloud, “could the Greeks come up with such vivid stories? How could they remember each god’s role? How could it all be so deep and philosophical?” My sister replied, “Think about it.” “These are people who valued intellect but also had to work in the fields to survive. They had nothing but time. And they wrote stories about humanity in the grandest of terms.” I always loved that answer. That’s why the Greek gods are so vindictive and creative and sublime.

Although the Mythic Tarot book will tell you what a card means in terms of several avenues, you never know which one is in play. Upon reading someone’s cards, you may encounter “The Wheel of Fortune”. The first thought that drops into your head is: “There’s some intense money problems tying this person in knots.” Followed by this contradictory thought: “This person doesn’t look like they have any money problems”. Maybe this is a ‘relative’ judgement in the mind of the querant, only. Maybe it’s YOU judging your client. What to do? Don’t say anything. Wait for the cards to bear out that thought – or not. Sometimes our own thoughts get in the way during a reading, you really have to tread softly to get the tenor right.

Look again at The Wheel of Fortune. Does anything stand out? Yes? Then using that cue, turn over a few more cards to illuminate what you see. If “no”, then move on – there are other fish to fry. Your random thought about the querant may be borne out later, so keep it in the back of your mind. The most unexpected aspect of a card could bring it up again. Watch, but don’t say anything until the cards confirm – which might not happen. The deep imagery of the cards will give you plenty to work with. Trust them! Interpreting tarot cards is a confluence of knowledge, intuition, compassion and timing!
